Global Internet Outage Impacts Major Organizations
Affected Businesses Include Fortune 500 Companies and Government Agencies
Hundreds of flights canceled worldwide
A global internet outage on Friday afternoon caused widespread disruption to businesses and government agencies in Australia and around the world. Major banks, healthcare providers, and energy companies were among those affected, as well as cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike and numerous airlines.
The outage, which began at around 12:30 pm AEST (02:30 UTC), was caused by an issue with a major internet service provider. The problem was eventually resolved, but not before causing significant disruption to businesses and travelers around the globe.
In Australia, the outage affected a number of major government agencies, including the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Australian Taxation Office. Many businesses were also affected, including banks, telecommunications providers, and airlines.
The outage also had a major impact on air travel, with over 5,000 flights canceled worldwide. Airlines affected by the outage included Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Jetstar.
The fix for the outage was largely a manual one, and it took several hours for the issue to be resolved. However, the outage has raised concerns about the resilience of the global internet infrastructure and the potential for future disruptions.
