Divers Halt Search for Woman Missing in Kuala Lumpur Sinkhole

Tragic Disappearance in Malaysia's Capital

48-Year-Old Woman Falls into 26-Foot Sinkhole

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Divers have suspended their search for a 48-year-old woman who disappeared after falling into a 26-foot sinkhole in the Malaysian capital. The woman, identified as See Suat Hong, was last seen on CCTV footage at around 8:50 pm on January 24, 2023.

Witnesses reported seeing Hong walking on the sidewalk when the ground suddenly gave way beneath her, plunging her into the sinkhole. Fire and rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, but heavy rainfall hampered their efforts.

Extensive Search and Recovery Mission

Divers from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) have been searching for Hong since her disappearance. However, the search was suspended on January 28, 2023, after four days of intensive efforts.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department, the search was halted due to "poor visibility, zero visibility underwater, and strong currents."

Authorities Express Condolences

The authorities have expressed their condolences to Hong's family and assured them that they are doing everything possible to locate her. The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has also launched an investigation into the incident.

DBKL spokesman Anwar Mohd Zain said, "We express our deepest condolences to the family of the victim. We will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the sinkhole and take necessary measures to prevent future incidents."

Call for Public Information

The authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could help in locating Hong. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any knowledge about Hong's whereabouts to come forward.

If you have any information, please contact the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department at 03-22732222 or the DBKL hotline at 1-800-88-3225.
